What is a EPDM Rubber Material?

EPDM is a synthetic rubber used in many wire and cable products. Angreen’s EPDM material has good heat resistance and weather resistance. It does not cause pollution during use, meets RoHS rules, and is easy to process.

Product Features

· Hardness 60–85A and good softness.
· Two types: electron-irradiated and vulcanized. Both run at low extrusion temperatures and process quickly.
· Very good water-tree resistance and low dielectric constant.
· Strong weather resistance and stays flexible at low temperatures. Heat-resistant grades include 90°C, 105°C, and 125°C.

Where It Is Used

· Cable sheaths and insulation for standards under GB5013, EN50525, EN50363, and VDE0282 (below 1 kV).
· EPDM insulation and sheaths that meet JIS C3301 and UL62 (600 V and below).
· Oil-resistant cables for 3.3–10 kV submersible pumps.
· Medium- and high-voltage EPDM materials above 10 kV.

Why EPDM Is Used

· Handles high heat for long periods (up to 90°C continuous, 250°C in short-circuit conditions).
· Resists sunlight, oxygen, and temperature changes.
· Resists chemicals like acids, alkalis, and cleaners.
· Provides strong electrical insulation and corona resistance.
· Stays soft at very low temperatures.
· Can be made flame-retardant with added agents.

Material Choice Tips

EPDM performance depends on its formulation. Vinyl content, diene type, and molecular weight all matter. Higher vinyl improves electrical and mechanical properties but may reduce low-temperature softness. For cable use, EPDM with lower molecular weight and a vinyl content of 65%–75% is usually preferred.
